#30 - Tech Update - NUVIEW's CEO Clint Graumann on LiDAR
Monday Jan 22, 2024
Monday Jan 22, 2024
Today my guest is Clint Graumann. Clint is the CEO and Co-founder of NUVIEW. NUVIEW is revolutionizing the Earth observation industry by building the first commercial satellites designed to annually map the planet’s entire land surface with LiDAR technology. This earned them a spot as One of Time Magazine’s 2023 Inventions of the Year.
For those of you not familiar with LiDAR, it stands for Light Detection and Ranging, and is a remote-sensing technology that uses lasers to measure precise distances and movement in an environment, in real time. The basic principles of LiDAR are similar to Radar and Sonar in the sense that All three technologies emit energy waves to detect and track objects. While radar uses radio or microwaves and sonar uses sound waves, LiDAR uses reflected light, which can measure distance faster, with greater precision and higher resolution than either radar or sonar.
You may ask, why does this matter to me? Well, Satellite imagery helps scientists keep track of how our planet’s natural and man made environments are changing. The detailed topographic maps this technology can generate can be used to assess hazards and natural disasters such as lava flows, landslides, tsunamis, floods, as well as other Environmental and conservation situations. Outside of that, use cases include Archaeology and cultural heritage and preservation, as well as Infrastructure construction and urban planning.
We live in times where technology is blamed for eliminating jobs. It is companies like NUVIEW that use technology to create a new generation of jobs that can help us take care of our environment all while improving our quality of life.
As a Lake Nona resident and entrepreneur, I am excited that NUVIEW chose Lake Nona as their home. I am a proud resident here and I am excited about the contributions this community is offering in the fields of technology and health. Clint and I had a great conversation and I am confident you will find it interesting as well. And now, Clint Graumann

#27 - Book Review - Leadership, Art or Science by Marco Frigerio
Saturday Jan 13, 2024
Saturday Jan 13, 2024
We continue with our series on Book Reviews and my guest is Marco Frigerio. Marco and I have been friends since the late 90s when we worked together on the deployment of one of the first CDMA networks in Latin America in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A lot has happened since then. Marco not only has a reputable career in cellular telecom, but has also worked with the US Navy. His global experience in both the commercial and military world, has exposed him to a variety of leadership styles and approaches; some of those experiences were great while others not so much. This drove him to write a book titled Leadership, Art or Science? In the book Marco shares what he has learned over the years and provides concise examples of successful and not so successful approaches to leadership. Marco and I agree that the world needs better leaders… leaders who understand that the world has changed and will continue to change. But most importantly, the world needs leaders who not only understand the environment around them, but also understand themselves first. We had a great conversation and I am sure you will enjoy the book.

#26 - Resilience - Airin Avery on Being a BodyBuilder
Monday Dec 04, 2023
Monday Dec 04, 2023
Today we continue our series on Resilience and my guest is Airin Avery. Airin is a national level body builder. From an early age she was involved in athletics and team level sports. While playing volleyball in college she found her passion inside the gym instead of at the court. Since then she embarked on a transformational journey that led her to become an NPC body builder all while also completing a PhD in materials chemistry. the path she chose was not easy, But she stuck with it, surrounded herself with likeminded supportive people, followed a process, and now runs a successful coaching business helping women attain their fitness goals.
This series on resilience is not just about doing amazing feats as running across the Sahara desert… it is also about doing great things for your body all while managing a busy life. I think Airin’s story is inspirational and will resonate with you as we discuss the ups and downs of her journey to become the entrepreneur, coach and body builder she is today.
Three Things led Airin to become a coach:
1. To pass on knowledge to other women so they could feel the same way that she did.
2. To teach women what they are capable of, and that they deserve to take up space
3. That being strong is an incredibly freeing and beautiful thing.
